African Music and Black Music worldwide has any number of layers, the rich sounds, melodies and rythyms of this music are incredibly diverse. I use the terms Black and African interchangeably as many Africans after years of separation from the African continent often refer to themselves or have been referred to as Black.  The music however has maintaned its cultural connections to the African continent regardless of how far removed. African music has a wonderful way of expressing various aspects of life; love, sex, war, oppression, rebellion, God-Consciouness etc. These numerous forms of expression have influenced all major genres of music today!

As we explore the many facets of African and Black Music throughout the world we will also examine its amazing ability to transform, ressurect, provide salvation and liberate the mind of the downtrodden. We will examine at times the power of the spoken word in Black Music, the power of the drum to communicate messages of hope. We will also examine various political concepts as well as artistic endeavors of various artists in Black Music genres. Please respond at will to the often times entertaining and even controversial subject matter. As is often the case in Black Music and African Music forms it is the connection between the sender and reciever that is crucial so it is here, enjoy.
